Top Lash Styling Tips For Classic Lash Extensions

Classic lash extensions are one of the most popular lash treatments, giving clients a natural, defined look. While classic sets may seem simple, thoughtful styling is what creates beautiful, bespoke results.

We asked Abigail and Anna to share their top styling tips for creating flattering classic lash sets.

Who is Abigail Richardson?

With over seven years of experience, Abigail is a lash artist, educator and Senior Brand Partner for LashBase. Alongside running STUDIO AR, she provides bespoke lash, brow and skin treatments, as well as education and 1:1 coaching for lash artists looking to grow their skills.

Abigail's Top Classic Lash Styling Tips

1. Ask your client what they don't want

Many clients don't know the names of different lash styles, but they usually know what they dislike. Asking what they don't want (whether that's lashes that are too dramatic, too long or a cat eye effect) helps you narrow down the perfect lash map and avoid disappointment.

2. Assess the eyes while your client is sitting upright

Always complete your styling assessment before your client lies down. Looking at their eye shape, eyelids and natural lash direction while they're sitting up gives you a much clearer idea of which styling and lengths will be most flattering.

3. Make your wisps stand out

If you're creating a wispy classic set, make sure your wisps are at least 3mm longer than the surrounding layers. Without the contrast, they'll disappear into the rest of the lashes instead of creating the textured finish clients love.

Anna's Top Classic Lash Styling Tips

Award-winning lash artist, Product Developer and Head of Education at LashBase, Anna, also shares three simple ways to elevate your classic sets.

1. Go shorter for a fuller look

Slightly shorter lash extensions often create a denser, neater finish. Going too long can make a classic set appear sparse or spidery, whereas shorter lengths give better coverage and a softer, more wearable result.

2. Use Split Tip Lashes or Double Classics for sparse lashes

For clients with naturally sparse, gappy lashes, Split Tip Lashes or Double Classics create the appearance of extra fullness while still keeping the classic look.

3. Perfect your isolation and direction

Great classic lash sets rely on clean isolation and consistent direction. Applying every extension to a single natural lash at the correct angle creates a tidy finish, improves retention and helps lashes grow out beautifully.

FAQs

How do you style classic lash extensions?

Style every set around your client's eye shape, natural lashes and desired result. A thorough consultation and customized lash map will always give the best outcome.

Why is the consultation so important?

It helps you understand your client's expectations and recommend the most suitable styling. Asking what they don't want can often be the most useful question.

Should clients be sitting up during the consultation?

Yes. Assessing the eyes while they're upright gives you the most accurate view of their natural eye shape and lash direction.

Creating beautiful classic lash extensions is all about the finer details. A thorough consultation, thoughtful styling, proper lash mapping and strong application techniques will help you create customised sets your clients will love.
