The Importance of Shaking Your Lash Adhesive
The Importance of Shaking Your Lash Adhesive - Why now is more important than ever.
Have you ever gone to use your lash adhesive and it appears to come out grey, speckled or even clear? Do you think that you might have a problem or that it's gone off?
Let us explain why it's nothing to worry about and how to move forward so that your lash adhesive continues to work to the best of its ability.
First off, let's rewind 10 years, in the days when all lash adhesives were very similar. They had a very strong fume and odor, they were thick, and they dried in about 3-4 seconds. Yuck. But, what was good about the adhesive of yesteryear is that you didn't really need to shake it, you didn't really need to consider your environmental conditions and you could store it pretty much anywhere. It just did, what it said on the tin. All be it in a smelly and slow manner.
Now moving forward to today. Lash adhesives are diverse, different and fickle things. The ingredients have been fine-tuned to be a low odor, thin, thinner, fast, faster, fastest and so on. All of these evolutions have meant that to get the best out of your adhesive, you MUST look after it. You need to keep check of the humidity of your room, the temperature, your storage and most importantly, you must shake that adhesive as if you had a wasp stuck on your hand.
As this blog is about shaking your adhesive, that's what we are going to talk about. If you don't shake your adhesive, like vigorously shake your adhesive, the ingredients inside will not mix properly. If the ingredients do not mix properly, the adhesive will not work as it is supposed to. This will then mean poor retention for your client and their lashes. Not good for anyone.
As a rule of thumb, if your adhesive is properly mixed, it will be pitch black (if you're using a black adhesive). If your adhesive is not properly mixed, it'll be grey, speckled or clear. The reason it is clear/grey is that the carbon black coloring in the adhesive has settled at the bottom. This means that although the adhesive appears "off", it would still work perfectly. The problem arises when you use up all the clear stuff (Cyanoacrylate) and the carbon black color is all that's left. You will think that you are using a normal adhesive, but instead, it'll just be carbon black coloring. Which again will mean zero retention.
How to shake your adhesive:
- Use a Lash Adhesive Shaker for 3 seconds.
- Shake your adhesive VIGOROUSLY for 30 seconds to 1 minute each time you use it. You really do need to give it a good mix. This goes for ALL lash adhesives.
Here's a short video of the difference between a shaken adhesive and an adhesive that has been left to settle. We hope this shows the importance of shaking your lash adhesive.
