Lash Lift Shield Guide

This guide is tailored for you, the confident lash artist who needs the right tools, knowledge and shield-selection strategy to get flawless lash-lift treatments. Let’s get into the details of lash lifting shields.

1. Choose the Right Shield Shape

The shield you pick immediately sets the tone for the lift. It influences the curl shape, how the natural lashes sit, and ultimately the end result your client sees.

Here’s a quick breakdown:

  • Round Shields - Excellent for downward-growing lashes or hard-to-lift lashes. They give a strong, even curl. Perfect on hooded or deep set eyes.
  • Flat Shields - Best for naturally lifted lashes or when you’re going for a more natural-looking lift with shaping and definition.
  • Teardrop Shields - Ideal for a bold, dramatic curl. Creates a more upright, instagram worthy lift. Great on protruding eyes or naturally long or lifted lashes.
  • Glueless Shields - A great all-rounder, perfect for any type of lashes. Ideal for achieving the signature Korean Lash Lift.

Pro Tip

SIZING: Use a dry applicator wand to push the lashes onto the shield to check the size. If the lashes go over the body of the shield (onto the flap), size up. If the lashes don’t quite reach the edge of the body of the shield, size down until it does.

2. Understand the Apex & Placement

[Look at Apex guide above for reference.]

NOTE: Lifted. with Cysteamine can be applied to the WHOLE lash so this part can be skipped.

One of the most underestimated parts of a quality lash lift is where you place the lifting solution in relation to the shield’s apex (the highest point of the shield where natural lashes will curl most prominently).

Key Rules

  • For a soft, natural lift, apply the lifting solution roughly 1mm below the apex.
  • For a dramatic curl, go 1-2 mm past the apex. Avoid placing too far, as you risk over-curling.
  • Always match placement to shield type and the client’s lash length/thickness.

Why This Matters

If the placement is off, you’ll end up with:

  • Uneven curls (one side stronger than the other)
  • Over-processed ends (lash tip flaring)
  • Under-lifted root area (lash appears straight near the lash line)

3. Quick Shield Selection Cheat-Sheet

As a lash artist, your tools are only as good as how you use them. The correct shield is foundational to an effective, safe, and beautiful lash lift.

Whenever you reach for those lift shields in your kit, remember: it’s not just ‘pop on shield + solution’, it’s a thoughtful process built on anatomy, shield science and client-care. When you deliver that, your results speak for themselves.
