Clean Lashes = Happy Lashes
Clean Lashes = Happy Lashes: The importance of Lash Aftercare
Eyelash aftercare is just as important as the application process. Not caring for lash extensions is like going to sleep in a face full of makeup – not nice! In today’s blog, we are going to discuss the importance of lash aftercare and what vital things you need to do to get the most out of your lash extensions.
Firstly, here are some basic do’s and don’ts in lash aftercare:
Don’t
- Although a post-application cleanse is recommended, don’t get lashes excessively wet for 24 hours.
- Don’t use steam rooms, saunas or sunbeds for 48 hours
- Don’t perm, tint or use eyelash curlers
- Don’t use waterproof or oil-based mascara on your extensions as they contain chemical properties that break down the adhesive.
- Refrain from rubbing and pulling at your lashes
Do
- Do be gentle around your eyes
- Do use an eyelash comb or mascara wand to brush and comb lashes daily
- Do gently wash lashes daily with eyelash cleanser, keeping the root area clean.
- Do invest in a lash safe makeup remover
If you follow the above tips your lashes will last longer, and your natural lashes will not suffer.

Why is lash aftercare important?
Lash artists provide aftercare advice for a reason. By cleaning your lash extensions daily you’ll see an improvement in long-term retention, meaning your lashes will look fuller for longer. Not caring for your lashes means you may see premature lash loss and find yourself losing lashes quickly. It’s also a common myth that lash extensions can’t get wet as this will ruin the adhesive bond, however, this is false! You can still shower as you normally do, and a little water never hurt a lash!
Good lash aftercare will also help prevent infections. Your natural lashes are there to prevent bacteria from getting into your eyes, and lash extensions do the same job. But if you’re not cleaning your extensions the bacteria will start to build up and could cause an infection.
Poor aftercare can also result in a build-up of dead skin and makeup on the lash line. So when you go in for your infill, your lash technician will struggle to apply extensions to unclean lashes and the bond will be affected. Resulting in your lashes not lasting.
Some lash artists offer an aftercare pack that you can purchase at the end of your appointment. These are great as they take out the hard work and the products are there ready to use. You can also invest in a lash-safe makeup remover to help remove eyeshadow and powder that may have fallen onto the lash to help keep your lashes clean in between washing them.
When you’ve paid for a full set of lashes, you want them to last. So the importance of aftercare really is vital to keep your lashes full and long-lasting, and without causing damage to your natural lash.
We hope this post has helped you to understand lash care and why it’s important. Remember clean lashes are happy lashes!
