So at the tender age of 48, I’ve decided to rekindle my love for music by learning to play the piano. Yes, I’m taking time to ‘switch off’ from the hamster wheel of modern life and have time for ME!
Why do we feel so guilty even saying that we need time for ourselves, let alone actually taking the time?
It may only be 1 hour per week but already I look forward to it each time it comes around and I’m learning a new skill.
Don’t get me wrong, life is pretty good and I feel very lucky to LOVE my job as a lash artist and educator, but running your own business, keeping up to date with online presence and messages, whilst juggling family life means we often don’t take time out to accept that coffee with a friend, go for a long relaxing walk on a Sunday or even try a new hobby that will help us unwind and keep a healthy mental attitude, without feeling guilty.
It’s taken me 10 years to finally take a step back and rekindle that passion!!
So, could you do the same? If you say ‘no’ to that last-minute client that never pre-books and pleads with you to ‘squeeze’ them in, will you start to feel less guilty and more in control of your diary again? If you consciously made a decision to answer those online messages during reasonable business hours, that pinged through whilst you were watching ‘Love Island’, will it really do your business any harm?
We live in an era of 24/7 Social Media, where clients can contact you at any time. Why do we feel the need to answer instantly?
So, how do you ‘Switch Off’?
Thank you to Julie for this blog on ‘switching off’ we are all guilty of not doing it or not being able to do it, and the truth is we ALL need to now and again, we are only human and there is only so much we can do!
We would love to hear how you 'switch off' please let us know over on Instagram @LashBase_US it may just help someone who struggles to find some 'me time'
